Srinagar, Aug 15, KDC: The first Kashmiri MBBS student, Saba Rasool from Safakadal, Srinagar, to be evacuated from war-torn Iran under the Ministry of External Affairs’ Operation Sindhu in June this year, died suddenly in Iran on Friday.
Saba, who was pursuing her MBBS at Urmia Medical College, had returned home on June 19 after being flown back along with other Indian nationals during the conflict. Once the situation normalised, she travelled back to Iran to complete her pending studies.
Her family in Srinagar has appealed to the authorities for urgent evacuation of her body. They said her brother, currently in Kuwait, is on his way to Iran to complete the necessary formalities for bringing her remains back to Kashmir.
Saba’s death has sent shockwaves across her locality, where she was regarded as a bright and determined student who overcame significant challenges to pursue her medical education abroad. (KDC)
