Kishtwar Tragedy: Omar Abdullah Cancels ‘At Home’ Tea Party, Cultural Events on Independence Day

Srinagar, Aug 14, KDC: In the wake of the tragic cloudburst in Kishtwar that has claimed dozens of lives and left more than a hundred injured and missing, Jammu and Kashmir’s Chief minister Omar Abdullah has announced the cancellation of the “At Home” tea party scheduled for tomorrow evening.

In a post on X, Abdullah said that cultural events planned for the morning Independence Day celebrations have also been called off as a mark of respect to the victims. However, the formal events — including the speech, march past, and other official proceedings — will go ahead as planned.

The decision comes amid ongoing large-scale rescue and relief operations in Chositi village, where the cloudburst triggered flash floods, causing widespread devastation. (KDC)
