Mass protests against new Pakistani law in Pakistan-occupied J&K

Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) witnessed massive protests today and echoed with slogans demanding independence against the newly imposed law by Pakistan.

Thousands of people took to the streets in bitterly cold weather to protest and protest the new law banning public gatherings and holding demonstrations.

As a mark of protest, black flags were hoisted on roofs of houses and shops in Rawalkot and other major towns of PoJK.

Shopkeepers in Rawalkot have also painted the shutters of their shops black as a mark of protest.

The protests are being held under the banner of Joint Awami Action Committee, a group of social, political, religious, trade, student and labor organizations of PoJK.

Despite describing the illegally occupied territories of Jammu and Kashmir as ‘Azad Kashmir’, the committee has vowed to resist the illegal occupation of Pakistan tooth and nail in the wake of the new law announced by the President of Pakistan.

The Ordinance effectively curtails the civil liberties of the people of PoJK as it prohibits assembly for protest and freedom of speech.
