In an interview with Charlie Kirk, Matt Getz announced his future plans after withdrawing his name for attorney general nomination on Friday. He said he is still in the fight but the fight is for ‘President Donald Trump’. “I’ll do whatever he asks of me,” Matt Getz said. And added that he does not intend to return to Congress.
“I’m still going to fight, but it will be from a new perch. I don’t intend to run for the 119th Congress. There are so many wonderful Floridians who have come forward to run for my seat. . .people who are inspired by their heroism, “I was 26 when I was elected for 14 years of his public service, now I’m 42,” Matt Getz said, adding that eight years in Congress is enough.
Getz said he wants new blood now but he’s not going anywhere, not retiring. “I’m looking to be a big voice but maybe not as an elected member of the government,” Gaetz said in his first reaction after withdrawing his name from the nomination, which actually gave MAGA a reprieve as Donald Trump’s transition team recovered from allegations of sexual misconduct.
After Matt Gaetz withdrew his name, Trump nominated Pam Bondi for attorney general, and Gaetz threw her weight behind Bondi.
“I was very appreciative of Matt Gaetz’s recent efforts to get approved to be attorney general. He was doing a great job but, at the same time, he didn’t want to detract from the administration, for which he has great respect. Matt has an amazing future, and I look forward to seeing the great things he will do!” Donald Trump posted as Gaetz withdrew his name.
Matt Gaetz resigned from Congress as Attorney General. This shielded him from the report of the Ethics Committee that investigated allegations of sexual misconduct against him because the committee or its investigation did not apply to a person who was not a member of Congress.
Matt Getz was accused of having sex with a 17-year-old and paying for her on several occasions. Donald Trump was investigated during his last term and the DOJ did not indict him. But the House Ethics Committee conducted an investigation whose report was due to be released soon. Now the report may never see the light of day because Gaetz is not a member of Congress and is not the attorney general of the Trump administration.
