Mehbooba Mufti Visits LoC Salamabad, Appeals for Peace Amid Ruins of Conflict

Srinagar, May 11, KDC): Terming Salamabad near the Line of Control (LoC) as the “ground zero of grief and resilience,” PDP President Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday made an emotional appeal for an end to the conflict, urging India and Pakistan to give peace a chance.

During her visit to the shell-battered border village in Uri, Mufti said the decades-long hostility has devastated lives and stolen childhoods. “War, bullets, and shelling have taken away homes and shattered the innocence of children. In tin-roofed shelters, Kashmir’s children wait—not for revenge, but for peace,” she said.

She painted a grim picture of life at the LoC, where, she said, “bombs have replaced bedtime stories and fear continues to steal childhoods.”

Calling for a reversal of this tragic reality, Mehbooba recalled the cross-LoC peace and trade initiatives started during her father Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s tenure. “My father transformed this battle line into a bridge of peace and trade. It’s time we choose homes over bunkers,” she added.

Appealing for the continuation and strengthening of the ceasefire, the former Chief Minister said it is the responsibility of both India and Pakistan to ensure that civilians on both sides are spared further suffering. “End this war. Let’s give peace a real chance,” she urged. (KDC)
