Under the captaincy of Mohammad Rizwan, the Pakistani team defeated Australia at their own home ground and achieved a feat that no Asian team has been able to do till date. Mohammad Rizwan, who is taking over the captaincy for the first time, could not have had a better start, with the team performing brilliantly under his leadership and managing to win the three-match series 2-1. After the last ODI of the series played in Perth, Rizwan praised his teammates and also made a statement about his captaincy which was nothing short of surprising.
I am captain only for toss and presentation
“This is one of the most special moments for me,” Mohammad Rizwan said after winning the ODI series against Australia. All country fans will be very happy. We have not been able to perform as expected in the last few years. I am the captain only during the toss and presentation. Everyone keeps giving me suggestions regarding fielding, batting and bowling. Beating Australia at home is not an easy task at all, but I want to give full credit to my team’s bowlers for this victory. Our team’s opening batsmen also performed brilliantly due to which we were able to easily chase down the target in the last ODI of the series. We also consider this win as a win for our fans, who don’t care too much about the results.
Rizwan became the fourth captain after 2011 to win a bilateral series in Australia.
Beating Australia at home in any format is never easy for any team. After 2011, this is only the fourth loss for the Kangaroos at home in a bilateral ODI series. Mohammad Rizwan became the fourth captain since 2011 to beat Australia in a bilateral ODI series at home. Earlier, Team India under the captaincy of Virat Kohli, South Africa under the captaincy of Faf du Plessis and England under the captaincy of Eoin Morgan achieved this achievement.
