MP Ruhullah Mehdi clarified stance on reservation policy, focused on rationalization

National Conference (NC) Member of Parliament Syed Agha Ruhullah Mehdi stressed that the government is committed to rationalize the reservation policy, not to harm anyone’s rights. He clarified that any changes would focus on making the system more balanced.

Mehdi explained that the business rules are still unclear, and the document regarding the reservation policy has been sent to the lieutenant governor’s office. “Once we get feedback from the LG’s office, decisions will be taken accordingly,” he said. He assured that the elected government is taking the matters of its sphere seriously and taking necessary steps.

On the issue of merit based reservation, Mehdi said that it is important to adjust the existing system. “I wanted to make it clear that if the government does not act on this, I will join the demand for rationalization and take it up with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to ensure that the issue is resolved expeditiously,” he added.

Regarding the recent fire in Abi Gurpora area of Dal Lake, Mehdi along with local MLAs Tanveer Sadiq and Farooq Shah visited the affected families. He assured that the government is working to help the 26 families whose houses were damaged in the fire. “Efforts are on to ensure that all families are resettled before the onset of winter,” he said.
