He was the mastermind of Budail Jailbreak. Chaura helped Babbar Khalsa International terrorists Jagtar Singh Hawara and Paramjit Singh Bhiora escape from Burail Jail along with their two associates Jagtar Singh Tara and Devi Singh. He had cut off the electricity supply to the jail long ago.
Know Chaura’s connection with Pakistan
Narayan Singh Chaura fled to Pakistan in 1984 during the initial phase of militancy in Punjab. There he was instrumental in smuggling large consignments of arms and explosives into India. In Pakistan, he also wrote a book on guerrilla warfare and sedition literature. Chaura was a suspect in the murder case of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh.
