Nepal and China signed a big agreement on BRI, know whether it will have an adverse effect on India?

Beijing/Kathmandu: Ever since KP Sharma Oli became the Prime Minister of Nepal, the government there has been continuously promoting anti-India activities. In a recent case, Nepal and China have finalized the much-awaited Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) cooperation draft. The two countries signed the BRI agreement on Wednesday. The agreement is expected to pave the way for the implementation of the BRI project. At the same time, this BRI agreement between China and Nepal is a major strategic blow for India. India has always been opposed to China’s BRI project.

The agreement was signed during Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s official visit to China. After assuming the post of Prime Minister for the fourth time, Oli arrived on an official visit to China for the first time. “Today we signed a draft agreement on Belt and Road cooperation,” Prime Minister Oli said in a post on social media platform ‘X’. As my official visit to China ends, I am honored to have bilateral talks with Prime Minister Li Keqiang, discussions with NPC Chairman Zhang Leji and a very fruitful meeting with President Xi Jinping.” He said the Belt and Nepal-China Economic Cooperation will increase. Road cooperation will be further strengthened under the draft agreement.

China invested the grant

According to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai and Liu Sushe of China’s National Development and Reform Commission signed the BRI draft agreement. According to the Kathmandu Post newspaper, in the agreement, the Chinese side removed the word “grant” proposed by the Nepali side and suggested replacing it with the word “investment” for projects under the BRI. After reviewing the new terms and conditions, officials found a solution and decided to include the term “assistance and technical assistance” in the context of implementing the project in Nepal, according to the newspaper.
