‘No religion supports polluting habits’, says Supreme Court on crackers ban

While hearing the ban on firecrackers, the Supreme Court has said that ‘no religion supports polluting habits.’ With this, the Supreme Court has asked the Delhi government to prepare for a permanent ban on firecrackers till November 25. A bench of Justices Abhay S Oka and Augustine George Masih observed, “The right to live in a pollution-free environment is a fundamental right under Article 21 of the Constitution. The Delhi government imposed the ban on October 14

The Delhi government banned firecrackers on October 14. However, during Diwali, the ban was not followed properly and a large number of firecrackers were burst in Delhi NCR. After this, the court has said that the Delhi Police did not take the ban seriously. The Supreme Court ordered that the Delhi Police Commissioner file an affidavit by November 25 whether notices were given to all firecracker manufacturers regarding the ban. Along with this, the police were also asked to give detailed information about the measures taken to prevent the online sale of firecrackers.

Details of all states included in NCR have been sought

The Supreme Court has asked all the states included in the National Capital Region to inform about all measures taken to control air pollution. Delhi NCR includes parts of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. However, the effect of burning in Punjab is also seen in Delhi.
