Peshawar: An official warning has been issued to government employees in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. They have been warned that they should not participate in the protest proposed by jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party on Sunday and should not use government machinery, otherwise they will face dire consequences.
Letter issued
The Ministry of Home Affairs, through a letter, directed the Chief Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) that “state machinery, equipment, officers and funds” should not be used “for political opposition by any political party”. Government employees were informed of the warning shortly after the letter was issued. Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General (IG) Akhtar Hayat Gandapur has written to Regional Police Officers (RPOs) directing them not to participate in political activities.

PTI has announced the demonstration
Imran Khan’s arch-rival Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leads the alliance at the federal level, while his party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) governs Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The PTI last week called for a long march to Islamabad with three demands. The demands include the release of the jailed party founder, the alleged “mandate theft” during the February 8 election and the restoration of the judiciary by repealing the recent 26th amendment to the constitution.
