New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha brought up the plight of common air passengers in the debate on the Indian Airlines Bill 2024 in the Rajya Sabha. He said that the government has forgotten the promise of cheap air tickets under the UDAN scheme. He said- There was a promise to allow Chappal to travel by plane, but what happened to that promise of the government? Now even a person who wears Bata company shoes cannot buy a plane ticket.
Government should make air travel accessible to common travelers
He mentioned the rising air fares and said there should be some regulation to control it. Raghav Chadha said that people’s pockets are being cut in the name of air travel. He mentioned about the air fares of various sectors and said that some places charge very high fares from the passengers. Flights to Maldives are cheap, but flights to Lakshadweep are expensive. He said the government should make air travel accessible to the common traveler rather than a luxury.
Tea and water are also very expensive
Raghav Chadha said that food and drinks at the airport are also very expensive. He said that one cup of tea costs 200-250 rupees. A bottle of water, which costs Rs 20 in the market outside, costs Rs 100 at the airport.
Long lines at the airport
Raghav Chadha said that even with expensive tickets there is no guarantee of travel. There is no warranty on your item even if it breaks or breaks. He described the country’s airports as worse than bus stands and said that there are such long queues that many people even miss their flights. People buy expensive tickets to reach their destination quickly but flights are delayed by 3 to 4 hours in small cities.
Impact on tourism due to lack of airport connectivity at many places
The AAP MP said there are no airports near many popular tourist destinations in the country and lack of connectivity is affecting tourism. Raghav Chadha urged the Union Civil Aviation Minister to address these challenges faced by air passengers.
