The Supreme Court has refused to hear the petition filed on the issue of farmers’ agitation on the Shambhu border. The court said, ‘We are not ready to hear the new petition filed on this issue. The court is already hearing the matter. This matter is in their notice. A case is already pending.
Legal action should be taken against highway blockers
The PIL has sought directions to the Centre, Punjab and Haryana governments to open the highways including the Shambhu border. The petition said that blocking the highway in this way is against the fundamental rights of the people. Apart from this, it is an offense under National Highways Act and BNS as well. In such a situation legal action should be taken against the highway blockers.
Central, Haryana and Punjab governments should issue notification
Along with this, the petition also said that the Supreme Court should issue directions to the central, Punjab and Haryana governments to remove the protesting farmers from the highway. A petition filed by an activist from Punjab also sought directions to the Center and the state to lift the ban on farmers’ protests and ensure that.
