PM Modi to strengthen India-CARICOM ties, make 7 important proposals in Guyana

Georgetown (Guyana): Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken a big step towards strengthening ties with Caribbean countries during his visit to Guyana. PM Modi emphasized on various sectors like trade, technology and tourism during the second India-CARICOM summit in George Town. He proposed seven key points to strengthen ties between India and CARICOM during talks with Caribbean countries on Wednesday.

When PM Modi arrived in Guyana on Wednesday, it was marked as the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister in over 50 years. They discussed ways to strengthen ties in areas such as economic cooperation, agriculture and food security, health and pharmaceuticals, and science and innovation. Caribbean countries also agreed on this.

Proposal for an online portal to connect countries

PM Modi said at the India-CARICOM Summit, “An online portal will be created to connect the private sector and stakeholders from all countries to promote the five ‘Ts’ – trade, technology, tourism, talent and tradition.” Modi said, “India is moving forward in the SME (small and medium enterprise) sector. During the India-CARICOM meeting last year, we announced a grant of US$ 1 million. Now we should focus on its implementation (Caribbean Community and Common Market) is a regional grouping.
