Police Caution Evacuees: Explosives Still Threaten LoC Villages

Baramulla, May 11: The Baramulla police has issued an urgent public safety appeal to residents evacuated from frontline villages, warning them not to return to their homes until officially cleared by authorities.

As per safety notice, the numerous unexploded shells remain scattered across both private and public areas near the Line of Control, posing a severe threat to life. “Specialized Bomb Disposal Squads from J\&K Police are currently conducting sweeping operations to identify and safely neutralize the threats,” reads the notice.
“The situation remains extremely dangerous. Even minimal disturbance can trigger an explosion,” the notice reads.

Temporary shelters with food, water, and medical aid have been established throughout the district by the administration.

A 24-hour emergency helpline (112) remains operational for assistance.

Police have warned against unauthorized entry into restricted areas, stating that violations may result in legal consequences. Checkpoints have been set up to enforce the restriction.

Safety instructions include:

Do not touch any suspicious objects, Mark the location if safe to do so.

Alert emergency services immediately.Warn others to stay at least 100 meters away

Clearance efforts are expected to take several days, depending on weather and ground conditions.

“The administration will notify the public once it’s safe to return,” reads the notice issued by SSP Baramulla.
