Guyana and Barbados have announced their biggest political awards to PM Modi. According to reports, Prime Minister of Guyana will confer its highest national award “The Order of Excellence” on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. At the same time, Barbados will honor Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the prestigious honorary “Order of Freedom of Barbados”.
Why is a trip to Guyana important?
This is the first time in over 50 years that an Indian Prime Minister has visited Guyana. Let us tell you that Guyana has a large population of Indian origin. Their number is about 3,20,000. When PM Modi arrived at the airport, President of Guyana Irfan Ali along with more than 12 of his cabinet ministers stood to welcome him. PM Modi will be in Guyana till November 21 and will hold discussions with its President Mohammad Irfan Ali on giving strategic direction to the unique relationship between the two countries. Apart from this, PM Modi will also meet the leaders of the Caribbean partner countries at the second India-CARICOM summit.
