Despite all efforts, serious air pollution in Delhi-NCR is not reducing. The Air Quality Index in Delhi has been in the severe-plus range for the past three days. AQI was above 500 in many areas of Delhi. Anti-smog guns were used and water sprinkled in many areas of Delhi. All the restrictions under Grape-IV are being strictly enforced but no significant impact is being seen.
Experts say that if the situation continues like this, the sky will be covered with a thick sheet of fog, then the people of Delhi will have to breathe poisonous air for the next two weeks. Experts say that temperatures will drop as winter progresses, in which case the people of Delhi will have to face the problem of air pollution till February if the wind speed does not increase and there is no rain.
The biggest problem in Delhi is due to fog in the sky and there are only two solutions – either very strong winds or rain. So now the talk of fake rain in Delhi has started. Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai has written to Union Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav suggesting that the central government should convene an immediate meeting to take a decision on fake rain. Gopal Rai said that he had already written to the Union Environment Minister thrice, but had not received any reply so far. So now Prime Minister Narendra Modi should intervene in this matter.
No matter how much the leaders talk, no matter how much they accuse each other, no one has any concrete solution to Delhi’s air pollution. The simple fact is that pollution will decrease if strong winds blow. If it rains, the pollution will disappear. Controlling the wind is not in anyone’s hands. But some people talk about fake rain. Artificial precipitation is produced by cloud seeding. Many people asked that if Dubai can get rain through cloud seeding then why not in Delhi?
According to a report, artificial rainfall was attempted in 2019 and 2021 but failed. This is because cloud seeding requires that there be some clouds. The air needs to be humid, but the air in Delhi is cold and dry in winter. Cloud seeding or simulated precipitation is the process of converting moisture in the air into precipitation. If there were clouds and moisture in the air, artificial pressure could have created rain, but experts say this is not possible in Delhi at the moment. (Rajat Sharma)
