Rajat Sharma’s Blog Temple and Masjid Growing Enmity: Stop These Feuds!

At present there is tremendous tension in the administration of Uttar Pradesh. Four youths were killed in the violence that took place on Sunday against the Jama Masjid survey. Police have arrested 25 people. 7 cases have been registered against more than a thousand unknown people. A named FIR has been registered against a total of 15 people, including Sambhal MP Zia ur Rehman Barak and Sohail Iqbal, son of Sambhal MLA Iqbal Mahmood. 24 policemen have been injured.

The death of 4 people in Sambhal is sad and unfortunate. It seems that the case was malpracticed at every level and at every turn. First, the order for the survey came in a hurry. Then the survey also started in haste. After that, rumors spread about the survey. In the mosque where only photography was done, the word of excavation spread. The rumor led to a mob gathering with stones and weapons. Local people say that these masked people came from outside. Some people incited the crowd. The mob surrounded the police and attacked them and the police claimed that they acted to save their lives.

If the administration had been vigilant, such a crowd would not have gathered and if the crowd had not been incited in the name of religion, the police would not have been attacked. The survey could have been done peacefully. The matter could have been fought in court, but exactly the opposite happened. Now there will be an investigation. Rioters will be identified. Instigators can be caught. A case can be filed against them but the 4 dead youths cannot be brought back. This is the most shocking aspect of this case.

Now people from both sides are accusing each other of conspiracy. No matter how much evidence is shown to them, no matter how many statements are made against them, no one will believe it. Both sides will stick to their own ideas. Both will blame each other. I want to say that these daily battles in the name of temples and mosques should stop. Conflict has never benefited anyone. Whenever a solution has been found, it has been found through mutual communication.

Years ago Dr. Harivanshrai Bachchan wrote, “Temples and mosques increase enmity…” Disputes over religious places do not benefit anyone, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat said a few days ago, ‘It is not right to locate a Shivling under every mosque. Our law also says that there is no need to create a new dispute over religious places that have already been created.

When people fight in the name of religion, become thirsty for each other’s blood, leaders get a chance to shine their leadership. Whatever happened in Sambhal, the common people suffered and the political parties profited immensely. (Rajat Sharma)
