Reformed Youth Deserve Passport Concessions: DGP Nalin Prabhat

Shopian, Mar 21, KDC: Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat today said that youth who had previously strayed but have shown a genuine change of heart and actions should be considered for concessions in passport issuance.

Addressing concerns over restrictions on certain applicants, he emphasized the need for a balanced approach.

“Yes, if a person has had a change of heart and deeds, we should consider giving him concessions,” DGP Prabhat said while interacting with the public.

DGP Prabhat also addressed the recent controversy surrounding a viral video allegedly showing a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) kicking a woman in Qazigund. He announced that a committee, led by the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of South Kashmir has been formed to investigate the matter, with findings expected within ten days.

“Three days have already passed. The matter should not be given a communal, religious, or caste-based angle. The accused DSP belongs to your own social background,” he stated.

The DGP made these remarks during the first-ever Thana Diwas in Keller Tehsil of Shopian district. Locals raised several concerns, particularly regarding the stoppage of fruit-laden trucks at Qazigund, which they said was leading to financial losses due to spoilage.

Farmers and traders highlighted that cold-stored apples have a limited shelf life and any unnecessary delay in transportation results in losses. Assuring swift action, DGP Prabhat stated that the issue would be addressed on priority. (KDC)
