Moscow: The war between Russia and Ukraine continues. Meanwhile, the Russian army has captured a British citizen fighting on behalf of Ukraine in the partially Russian-held Kursk region. Russia’s state news agency TASS gave this information in a report published on Monday, citing law enforcement sources. The report identified the British national captured by Russian forces as James Scott Rhys Anderson.
What did the British citizen say?
The report quoted Anderson as saying he served as a signalman in the British Army for four years and then joined the International Legion of Ukraine, which was formed after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine about two and a half years ago. In Ukraine, Anderson allegedly worked as an instructor for Ukrainian troops and was deployed against his will to the Kursk region, according to the report. Tass also released a video in which Anderson can be heard saying he “doesn’t want to be in this area.”
Russia Ukraine war
But know
The report could not be independently verified, but if confirmed, it would be the first known case of a Westerner fighting for Ukraine on Russian soil. The British Embassy in Moscow and the Russian Defense Ministry have yet to comment on the development. (AP)
