There has been a huge increase in cybercrime incidents in the country for some time now. In which the incidents of ‘digital arrest’ are increasing in large numbers. Now the Bhopal police have saved a businessman from a loss of crores of rupees by saving him from digital arrest. Police officials have shared information about the entire incident. Cybercriminals called the businessman on Saturday and posed as Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) officials.
How was digital arrest made?
In fact, Vivek Oberoi, who lives in Arera Colony in Bhopal, received a call on Saturday. The caller identified himself as a TRAI official. The man told the merchant that several bank accounts were opened with the help of his Aadhaar card and his Aadhaar card was also used to buy SIM cards for dubious activities. The cybercriminals made Oberoi download the Skype video calling app and asked him to stay in the room.

When the businessman was digitally arrested, he informed the Madhya Pradesh Cyber Police. The police reached there only during the digital arrest. When the police asked the fake law enforcement officers to identify themselves, the criminals disconnected the video call. According to the police, the criminals got the details of the businessman’s bank accounts, but they did not transfer any money.

Digital arrest is a new method used by cybercriminals to commit fraud. In this case fraudsters claim to be officials of legal agencies. Then they intimidate people by making audio or video calls and keep them digitally hostage in their homes.
