A shocking case has come to light from Bhubaneswar in Odisha. A couple from Bihar sold their four-year-old daughter here for Rs 40,000. The incident took place in Bhubaneswar’s Shisupalgarh area, where the couple earned their livelihood by doing daily labour. He sold his daughter to a couple from Pipili area of Puri district.
The matter came to light when the owner of the house, Sarthak Mahanty, filed a complaint at the Bargad police station. After receiving the complaint, the police took immediate action and rescued the girl and took six people involved in the case into custody. This includes the girl’s parents, the couple who bought the girl and the two women who made the deal.
Parents are daily labourers
Bargada police station IIC Tripti Ranjan Nayak said the couple admitted that the girl was sold for Rs 40,000. The girl’s parents earn their livelihood by doing daily labour. The police said that the entire incident has been captured in the CCTV cameras installed in the area, due to which this matter has come to light.
The couple confessed to the crime
Giving information, Childline director Benudhar Senapati said, “The child belongs to the trafficker’s first wife, whom he abandoned. Then he remarried. The couple has confessed to their crime and it is a legal offence.” Police and Childline officials have taken the girl into their custody and taken further legal action. (Reporting by Shubham Kumar)
