Bangladesh’s interim government wants to prosecute former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the International Criminal Court (ICC). The office of the head of the interim government of Bangladesh, Mohammad Yunus, has given information about this on Thursday.

“Chief Counsel Yunus has discussed the issue of Hasina’s trial with International Criminal Court Prosecutor Karim A Khan,” said an official at the Chief Counsel’s press unit in Bangladesh. Khan has met Yunus at his official Jamuna residence.”The official said that Yunus had told him during his meeting with Khan that his government wanted to press charges against Hasina and her associates.

Rohingya was also discussed

According to the press unit, during their discussion, the two also discussed the Rohingya crisis and humanitarian assistance for them, the situation in Myanmar, as well as action and responsibility for atrocities during the July-August mass agitation in Bangladesh. Khan told Yunus that his office has formally requested an arrest warrant for the head of Myanmar’s military government, Min Aung Hlaing, for crimes against humanity in connection with his treatment of the Rohingya.

Dhaka sought the help of Interpol

Hasina left the country on August 5 following widespread protests against the Awami League-led government over the controversial job reservation system. Three days later, Nobel laureate Yunus took charge as chief adviser to the interim government. Many of Hasina’s associates are in jail or have fled the country. At the same time, Dhaka has sought Interpol’s help for Hasina’s return to India. (language)
