New Delhi: Speaker of the House Jagdeep Dhankhar was furious with the opposition parties after the ruckus during the Rajya Sabha proceedings. On the opposition’s slogans regarding farmers’ issues, Dhankhar said that the opposition is only politicizing the issue and creating drama. He said that ‘crocodile tears’ will not benefit the farmers.
Dhankhar reprimanded the MPs who created the ruckus.
Criticizing the rioting MPs, Dhankhar said raising slogans and shedding crocodile tears would not serve the interest of farmers. “You are just doing politics,” he told sloganeering members of the Congress and other opposition parties. You don’t want solutions. Farmers are your last priority. The Speaker said that it was regrettable that last week due to commotion in the House no work could be done and during that time not even a single notice was issued on the issue of farmers.
Stopping the rowdy opposition members, Dhankhar said that in future I will keep in mind that your assurance was a strategy. I have given you permission on the assurance that you will observe decorum and discipline.
The opposition staged a walkout from the Rajya Sabha
Following this, the Congress and several other opposition forces staged a walkout from the Rajya Sabha in protest against the government’s alleged anti-farmer policies and non-fulfillment of its promise to increase MSP. Earlier, Congress members raised slogans. It is alleged that Jagdeep Dhankhar rejected a notice under Rule 267 seeking adjournment of the day’s scheduled business to discuss the farmers’ issue.
Congress MP Pramod Tiwari said that the government has not fulfilled its promise to increase the MSP and due to this the farmers had to protest again. He alleged that the government has also not fulfilled other promises made to the farmers. Without naming Dhankhar, Tiwari said even a person holding a high constitutional position has raised his voice for farmers.
