Team India has returned the most awaited player from last year. Indian cricket team’s star fast bowler Mohammad Shami was able to return to the cricket field after 360 days. Shami made his comeback for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy Group C match against Madhya Pradesh.

Shami was ruled out of the World Cup 2023 final last year due to injury. Shami suffered an ankle injury for which he had to undergo an operation. Since then, he was undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy i.e. NCA in Bengaluru. Although he gave an update on his fitness a few days ago, he was not selected in the Indian squad for the tour of Australia after that. Now Shami returned to competitive cricket through Ranji Trophy but could not do anything special.

Shami was disappointed on the first day

In fact, Mohammad Shami bowled 10 overs on the first day against Madhya Pradesh but failed to take a single wicket. The result was that Madhya Pradesh strengthened its position after the first day’s play. After Bengal’s innings was bundled out for 228 runs, Madhya Pradesh ended the day’s play at 103 runs for one wicket. Bengal need to win this match to stay in the quarter final race.

Shami hit three fours and conceded 16 runs in his opening spell of four overs. His second spell of 6 overs was more impressive. In this he spent 18 runs with a maiden. BCCI and those associated with the Indian team will keep an eye on Shami’s fitness. With a strong performance in the domestic matches, he may return to the squad for the upcoming matches of the Border-Gavaskar Test series.

Expect a better performance the next day

Shami was first seen playing alongside his younger brother Mohammad Kaif in a Ranji match. Kaif took the only wicket in Madhya Pradesh’s innings. He dismissed opener Himanshu Mantri for 13 runs. Madhya Pradesh’s second opener Shubhanshu Senapati is at the crease after scoring 44 runs off 103 balls and Indian batsman Rajat Patidar is at the crease after scoring 41 runs off 55 balls.
