India’s great footballer Sunil Chhetri has created a new record in the history of Indian Super League (ISL) on Saturday. He became the oldest player to score a hat-trick in league history. At the age of 40 years and 126 days, Chhetri scored a hat-trick for his team Bengaluru FC in a 4–2 win over Kerala Blasters. With this impressive performance, he surpassed the previous record holder Bartholomew Ogbache, who scored a hat-trick for Hyderabad FC against FC Goa in January 2023 at the age of 38 years and 96 days.

This brilliant performance by Sunil Chhetri was very important for Bengaluru FC. Chhetri scored goals in the 8th, 73rd and 90+8th minutes to win the team. His feat reflects his hard work and passion for football. Apart from Chhetri, Bengaluru FC’s Ryan Williams scored the second goal in the 38th minute, which proved to be very important for the team. While Jesus Jimenez and Freddy Lalama scored in the 56th and 67th minutes respectively for Kerala Blasters, their team could not win. Although Kerala Blasters performed well in the match despite the loss, Bengaluru FC’s strong play and Chhetri’s hat-trick finally turned the match around.

Chhetri’s record will add to his long and illustrious career. It has given Indian football a new status in front of the world and has increased the awareness of football in the country. Although he retired from international football earlier this year, he continues to contribute significantly to his team in club football. His performance is not only important as a personal record, but also an inspiration to young players who are on the path to success in football.
