Amid the ongoing tension in Syria following the civil war, the Indian Embassy has informed that all Indian citizens are safe here. Government sources gave this information a few hours after Islamic rebels ousted Syrian President Bashar al-Assad from power. Sources said the Indian Embassy in Damascus is still functioning. The Indian Embassy has issued an advisory

According to official figures, there are around 90 Indian nationals in Syria, including 14 who are working in various UN organizations. On Friday, the Indian government issued a travel advisory for Syria, strongly advising Indian citizens to avoid traveling to the country until further notice. “In view of the prevailing situation in Syria, Indian citizens are advised to avoid travel to Syria until further notice,” the Ministry of External Affairs said.

“Indians currently in Syria are requested to contact the emergency helpline number (also on WhatsApp) and the email ID of the Indian Embassy in Damascus for updates. President Assad fled the country
