The Champions Trophy is scheduled to be held in Pakistan next year but it is not yet clear whether the entire tournament will be played on Pakistani soil or a hybrid model will be adopted. The Indian team has already categorically refused to go to Pakistan, due to which the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is under tension. Meanwhile, big news is coming out about Champions Trophy.
In fact, the ICC is going to call an emergency meeting to resolve the Champions Trophy issue. The reason behind organizing this meeting is to reach a mutual agreement between BCCI and PCB regarding the tournament. Now it remains to be seen what the outcome of this meeting will be. ESPNcricinfo has given this information in its report. According to the report, the ICC board will convene an emergency meeting next week to discuss the fate of the 2025 Champions Trophy. The meeting will be held on November 26, the sole agenda of which is to build a consensus on whether or not to adopt a hybrid model for the tournament.
8 teams will participate in the tournament
The ICC Board consists of representatives of 12 full member states, three representatives of Associates, one independent director, and the President and CEO of the ICC. The PCB was awarded the right to host the eight-team ODI tournament Champions Trophy in November 2021 three years ago. Since then, the Pakistan Cricket Board has been making all efforts to organize the tournament at three locations in Pakistan, Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi.
It may be noted that earlier this week, the Indian blind cricket team was forced to pull out of the T20 Cricket World Cup in Pakistan, as the team could not get permission from the Indian government to travel to Pakistan. Now it will be seen what decision is taken in the emergency meeting of ICC and whether there is a mutual agreement between the two boards or not.
