A black bear was captured alive in Dardpora Arin village of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district during the night between Saturday and Sunday, officials said.
The area’s wildlife ranger Tanveer Ahmed told NVI that the bear had been roaming in the area for several days, causing fear among the locals.
“The wildlife department personnel were camping in the area, and after several days of continuous efforts, the bear was caught in a cage and subsequently tranquilized,” he said.
He added that the department has heightened vigilance in the area to prevent any emergency. “We have been vigilant to avoid any untoward incident and have successfully captured a black bear in Dardpora Arin village without causing any injury,” said Tanveer.
After its capture, the bear was taken to Tragbal forests, a designated conservation area, where it was safely released into its natural habitat, he added.
