In Uttarakhand’s Paudi district, an elderly man in a drunken state drank ‘toilet cleaner’ disguised as alcohol, leading to his death. The deceased has been identified as 67-year-old Bhagwan Singh, a resident of Jamla village here. The police have handed over the dead body to the relatives after conducting a post-mortem.
Drink ‘toilet cleaner’ after returning from marriage
Pauri police station in-charge Amarjit Singh quoted family members as saying that Bhagwan Singh had returned home after attending his niece’s wedding on Sunday night but was in a state of intoxication. Toilet cleaner was kept in a glass water bottle in the house. In a state of intoxication, Singh accidentally drank ‘toilet cleaner’. He mistook it for alcohol and drank it. Singh’s health began to deteriorate after drinking the toilet cleaner, after which his family brought him to Pauri District Hospital, about 13 km from the village, where Singh died on Monday.
Pauri Chief Medical Officer Dr. Praveen Kumar said that the body was handed over to the family members after the post-mortem. Due to Bhagwan Singh’s death, the family is in a bad condition. The villagers are also surprised by such an incident.
50,000 fine on those who serve alcohol, boycott of the family
At the same time, let us tell you that in many hilly districts of Uttarakhand there is a ban on serving alcohol at weddings. There is a provision to penalize the family concerned for not following the rules. On 15 November, led by village headman Bhagchand Bisht of Udari village, the villagers, including the Mahila Mangal Dal, organized a meeting in which it was unanimously decided that a fine of Rs 50,000 would be levied on anyone who drinks alcohol.
