New Zealand’s dashing fast bowler has made a big announcement about his retirement. Tim Southee will retire from Test cricket after the upcoming three-match home series against England. The New Zealand Cricket Board gave this information on Friday. However, Southee will be available for selection if New Zealand qualify for the World Test Championship (WTC) final next June. The WTC final will be played at Lord’s in London from June 11.
Saudi will play the final Test in December
The first two Tests of the series against England will be played in Christchurch (November 28 to December 2) and Wellington (December 6 to 10). The finals will be played from December 14 to 18 at Seddon Park, Southee’s home ground in Hamilton. Southee will be 36 by the time the third Test begins in Hamilton. He will also decide on his white-ball future when the Kiwis host the Kiwis for three T20Is and three ODIs starting December 28.
New Zealand’s most successful bowler
Southee has played 104 Test matches for New Zealand and has taken 385 wickets. He is second only to Sir Richard Headley (431) in the list of bowlers who have taken the most Test wickets for New Zealand. The right-arm fast bowler, who made his Test debut against England in 2008, is New Zealand’s most successful bowler across all formats with 770 wickets. He is the only player in the world to take more than 300 Test wickets, 200 ODI wickets and 100 T20I wickets.
