A three-match ODI series is being played between Bangladesh and Afghanistan. The series is currently tied at 1-1. In the second ODI, Bangladesh won by 68 runs, with captain Nazmul Hasan Shanto playing a brilliant innings and single-handedly leading the team to victory. Now in the midst of the Test series, the Bangladesh team has suffered a big blow. Nazmul Hasan Shanto has been ruled out of the third ODI due to injury. He has also been ruled out of the Test series against the West Indies starting this month.
Injury while fielding
Nazmul Hasan was injured while fielding during the second ODI against Afghanistan. After this he left the field. Mehdi Hasan then took over the captaincy in his place. BCB chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hussain confirmed to Cricbuzz that Nazmul will miss the last match against Afghanistan due to a groin injury. Now Mehdi Hasan will take his place as the captain in the last match.
BCB Senior Doctor Dr. Devashish Chaudhary said that Shanto has undergone MRI. We have received the team physio’s report and scan report, which confirmed a grade II strain on his left groin. He will need rest and rehabilitation. We will see his condition after two weeks. He will return to Bangladesh.
Mushfiqur Rahim is already out
Bangladesh’s Mushfiqur Rahim is out due to injury ahead of the series against West Indies and Afghanistan. Now Nazmul’s injury has added to Bangladesh’s woes. The omission of these two players is no less than a setback for Bangladesh. He has played all three formats of cricket for Bangladesh. A few days ago, he expressed his desire to quit the captaincy.
Nazmul Hasan Shanto scored 1766 runs in 33 Test matches for Bangladesh. Apart from this he has scored 1488 runs in 47 ODI matches. He has also played 49 T20 Internationals for the team.
