The 18th season of the Indian Premier League i.e. IPL is scheduled to be played in the year 2025, for which the mega auction will be organized on November 24 and 25. The Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah is hosting the IPL Players Auction for the first time, starting at 3 PM IST on both days. A total of 1574 players submitted their names for the mega auction this time, after which the names of the shortlisted players were announced by the IPL Governing Council on 15 November in which only 574 players made it. Some big names are also missing from this, which fans are a bit surprised to see, one of which is England’s lethal fast bowler Jofra Archer, who put his name up for auction but was not included. The reason behind the shortlisted players has now come to light.
Jofra Archer will not be able to play next 2 seasons due to England Cricket Board.
England are scheduled to play a 5-match Test series against India at home in 2025, the schedule for which has already been announced. At the same time, the England Cricket Board has become very cautious about this Test series as it wants to keep its key players fully fit and that is why they have barred Jofra from participating in the IPL mega auction. According to a Cricbuzz report, the ECB wants Jofra to make a comeback in this format through the Test series against India next year. Now this decision of ECB has become a big problem for Jofra as he will not be able to play next year’s IPL season as well as 2026 IPL season.
New rules have been made this time for foreign players
The IPL Governing Council had already announced new rules regarding foreign players, in which if a player does not name himself for the 2025 mega auction, he will not be included in the mini auction to be held in the year 2026. In which Jofra submitted his name but was withdrawn before being shortlisted. Let us tell you that a total of 37 England players are included in the shortlisted players for the IPL Mega Auction this time, including the name of James Anderson.
