An incident that shames humanity has come to light from Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand. Here a poor girl tied her brother’s dead body to the roof of a taxi to take it to her village 195 kilometers away. A girl named Shivani (22) was working in Haldwani along with her younger brother Abhishek (20). On Friday, Abhishek developed a headache and returned home, but was later found unconscious near the railway tracks. He was rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

Appealed for help in low rent

According to police, Abhishek’s body was handed over to Shivani after the postmortem on Saturday. Shivani said that she approached several ambulance drivers to take the body home, but all of them demanded a fare of Rs 10-12 thousand, which she did not have. He pleaded for help with the lowest fare, but no one helped him. Not having much money, Shivani called a taxi driver from her village and tied her brother’s body on the roof of the taxi and took her home 195 kilometers away.

“…then you will surely help”

Dr. Sushila Tiwari, Principal of Government Medical College regarding this incident. Arun Joshi said the incident took place outside the hospital, which did not come to his notice. He said that if the matter had taken place inside the hospital, he would surely have been able to help. Patient attendants standing outside the hospital said private ambulances have no control and they charge as per their wish to transport patients from one place to another.

CM Dhami took notice

After the incident became public, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami took cognizance and ordered an inquiry into the matter. He directed the officials to take strict action against the culprits. The Chief Minister said that such incidents should not be repeated and the state government would thoroughly investigate the matter. A government spokesperson said the Chief Minister has asked Health Secretary Dr R Rajesh Kumar to investigate the matter and take strict action against the culprits. (language)
