New Zealand Women’s Cricket Team: The New Zealand cricket team recently won the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 title by defeating South Africa. Then the team won this ICC trophy for the first time. New Zealand coach at that time was Ben Sawyer. Now he has been made the coach of the New Zealand women’s team again and his tenure will be for two years. He will hold office till December 2026. Ben Sawyer was appointed coach for the first time in June 2022 on a two-year contract. His tenure was then extended. New Zealand Cricket’s head of high performance, Liz Green, said: “We are delighted to be associated with Ben for the next two years. He has instilled a lot of confidence and trust in this group and having him now is a huge deal for the current team.
He said Ben Sawyer played a big role in helping the New Zealand women’s team grow. Many of our young players, who made their debut in international cricket on Ben’s first tour two years ago, are beginning to blossom, as we saw in the recent T20 World Cup.
The New Zealand captain said a big thing
New Zealand team captain Sophie Devine said: “I am excited to have Ben Sawyer join us again. The work she has done for women’s cricket in New Zealand is immense. The team is in a very good position right now so I think it will be a big thing for us to have him in the team for the next two years and maintain continuity.
The ODI series will be played against Australia
Ben Sawyer has a long coaching experience, which could be useful for the Kiwi team. He coached for the Sydney Sixers from 2015 to 2021. He is also associated with Birmingham Phoenix. The New Zealand women’s team is scheduled to play a three-match ODI series against the Australian women’s team from December 19. The squad for which will be announced in a few days.
