Today’s Weather 8 December 2024: Cold in Delhi, Rain in Tamil Nadu, Trouble, North-Eastern States shrouded in fog

The cold continues in Delhi, the capital of the country, but the rains continue in the southern states of India. Fog is a major problem in north-eastern states and snowfall has started in north-hill states. West Bengal’s Darjeeling and Kalimpong are likely to experience snowfall along with rain in the coming days. Light rain is likely to occur in Delhi on Sunday as well. When it rains, the people of Delhi can get a lot of relief and the air here can become clean. However, Delhi’s AQI improved significantly due to strong winds.

According to the Meteorological Department, there may be heavy rain in the south-eastern states of the country in the coming days. A yellow alert has been issued for Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry. Cyclone Phangle has also wreaked havoc in these states and now central government teams are going there to assess the damage. Heavy rains are likely in these states in the next three to four days.

Coldest Friday night in Delhi

Delhi had its coldest night so far this winter on Friday (December 6) with a minimum temperature of 7.1 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department has predicted light rain in the city on Sunday. According to the India Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature on Friday night was three degrees below the season’s average. The maximum temperature on Saturday was 25.4 degrees Celsius. The second lowest temperature of the season was recorded on Thursday and Friday when the minimum temperature dropped to 8.5 degrees Celsius. On Sunday, the maximum temperature is expected to be 24 degrees and the minimum temperature is 8 degrees Celsius.

Chance of snowfall in Darjeeling

Parts of West Bengal’s northern districts of Darjeeling and Kalimpong are likely to receive light rain or snow. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has expressed this possibility in its forecast till December 10. The IMD said on Saturday that dense fog may continue in parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal during late night and morning hours till December 10. In the southern part of the state, light rain is likely at one or two places over West Midnapore, Jhargram, Purulia, Bankura, Purva and West Bardhaman, Birbhum, Murshidabad and Nadia districts on December 9.

Mercury may fall in Kolkata

According to the IMD, the weather in other parts of West Bengal is likely to remain mainly dry till December 10. In the last 24 hours, Darjeeling city recorded a minimum temperature of 5.6 degrees Celsius, the lowest in the state, while Kalimpong recorded a minimum temperature of 10.5 degrees Celsius. Purulia, located in the western part of the state, was the second coldest at 9.5 degrees Celsius. Kolkata recorded a minimum temperature of 16.5 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department has estimated that the mercury in the metropolis may drop by one degree on Sunday morning.
