Ottawa: Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has for the first time acknowledged the presence of Khalistan supporters in his country. So far Trudeau has remained silent on the Khalistanis and has been supporting their anti-India movements. Several times Khalistanis have also insulted the tricolor by targeting the Indian embassy. Despite repeated objections from India, Trudeau has not taken any action against the Khalistanis till date. But now at least he is forced to admit that there is a large number of Khalistanis present in Canada.
However, Trudeau also said in his statement that not all Khalistani supporters represent the Sikh community in Canada. Trudeau made the remarks during Diwali celebrations at Parliament Hill in Ottawa. “There are many supporters of Khalistan in Canada, but they do not represent the entire Sikh community,” he said.
Supporters of Hindu PM Modi
Trudeau also acknowledged that most Hindus living in Canada are supporters of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. But Trudeau presented the matter differently. Just as Khalistanis do not represent all Sikhs. Similarly, the Hindu supporters of Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi’s government in Canada also do not represent all Hindus living in Canada. The possible involvement of agents was alleged. Relations between the two countries have been strained ever since.
However, India dismissed Trudeau’s allegations as absurd. India says that the main issue between the two countries is that Canada is giving space to pro-Khalistan elements carrying out anti-India activities from its soil without any restrictions. (language)
