Two Policemen Injured in Bandipora Gunfight

Srinagar, Apr 25, KDC: Two security personnel were injured in an encounter with terrorists in the forested Kulnar Bazipora in Ajas area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Friday, officials said.

The gunfight broke out after a joint team of security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the area, acting on inputs suggesting the presence of militants. As the forces zeroed in on the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists opened fire, triggering a fierce exchange.

“In the initial exchange of fire, two police personnel sustained injuries and were immediately evacuated for medical treatment,” an official source said, adding that their condition is being monitored.

The operation was underway when reports last came in, with reinforcements rushed to the site to tighten the cordon and prevent the escape of militants believed to be hiding in the area.

The latest gunfight comes amid heightened tensions in the Valley following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam that left 26 tourists dead and several others injured. Authorities have intensified security operations across Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of the attack.

Further details are awaited as the search operation continues in the dense forests. (KDC)
