Washington: After the swearing in of Donald Trump on January 20, a new immigration bill may be introduced in the United States (USA). Its preparation has already started. This immigration bill will have different rules, conditions and exemptions for all countries. Two Democratic senators introduced a potential bill on Wednesday that aims to reunite immigrant families and raise the per-country family-based immigration cap to allow more visas to visit single countries like India and China. India is expected to get maximum concessions in this new immigration policy.
Members of the Senate Judiciary Committee Senators Mazie K. The Reuniting Families Act, introduced by Hirono and Tammy Duckworth, would reunite families in the nation’s immigration system, reduce the family-based immigration backlog, and update laws to address how families immigrate to America. The bill also includes Senator Hirono’s Filipino Veterans Family Reunification Act, which would expedite visa processing for children of Filipino veterans who served in World War II.
Trump’s main agenda was immigration policy
A new immigration policy was included in the agenda of the newly elected President of America, Donald Trump. Therefore, since he assumed the presidency, discussions of major changes in immigration policy have intensified. However, it is expected that Indians will be given special care in this immigration policy. “As the only immigrant currently serving in the U.S. Senate, I am proud to update our nation’s immigration system and reunite families,” to reduce the backlog of family-based immigration visas, exempt immediate relatives from visa restrictions, and prevent the separation of LGBTQ+ families. “By implementing these changes, this bill will better prioritize family unity in our immigration system.”
Immigration policy will undergo extensive reforms
America is in dire need of a comprehensive reform of its immigration policy. Senator Mazie K. Hirono said the Families Reuniting Act is a step in the right direction that will help reunite or keep families together in our immigration system,” Duckworth said. The legislation will implement practical reforms by helping clarify family-based pending, pending ‘green card’ Approve applications and bring more families together.” (language)
