Violence, shooting in Samguri, accusation-counter-accusation between BJP and Congress before the by-election in this seat of Assam

The incident of violence has come to light ahead of the November 13 by-election to the Samguri assembly seat in Assam. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition Congress have accused each other of targeting their supporters in the past 24 hours. Police gave this information on Sunday. It is also alleged that three journalists who went to report the violence were beaten up by Congress supporters. The incident of violence took place on Saturday.

Firing at MLA Jitu Goswami’s vehicle

Chief Minister Himanta Vishwa Sharma accused the Congress of ‘carrying out violence under the cover of darkness’ to intimidate BJP workers. He said that no one will be allowed to undermine the democratic process. A police officer said, ‘We received information about a firing incident in Mari Putikhaiti village of Samguri. BJP workers alleged that bullets were fired at ruling party MLA Jitu Goswami’s vehicle from a Congress worker’s house.

Ismail Hussain’s son Imamuddin was shot

A police officer said Goswami and BJP leader Suresh Bora were traveling in the vehicle. However, no one was injured in this incident. “Congress workers alleged that BJP workers fired at Imamuddin, son of the party’s former zonal panchayat member Ismail Hussain, injuring him in the leg,” the official said.

Police said the injured Imamuddin was taken to a nearby hospital. According to the official, the allegations are being confirmed. In another incident, independent candidate Musabbir Ali Ahmed was found seriously injured on a road near his house in Katimari grant area. Ahmed’s supporters immediately rushed him to Nagaon, where he is undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

CM targets Congress

Chief Minister Sharma in a post on ‘X’ said, ‘I strongly condemn the attack on Hon’ble MLA Jeetu Goswami in Samguri by Assam Congress supporters. This is the same Congress, which proudly holds a copy of the Constitution to show on camera and commits violence under cover of darkness to intimidate our workers.
