A mockery of women’s clothing
Petitioner Harvinder Chaudhary informed the bench that he would consolidate his suggestions as well as those of other parties in the case and file a brief. The bench gave them eight weeks’ time and listed the matter for further hearing. During the hearing, Chaudhary highlighted the grievances of women from the Sikh community, who were ridiculed for their attire. Apart from this he also told about the problems of Sikh children in schools. “You prepare a short compilation so that it is easy to read,” said the bench.
More than 5,000 websites are mentioned
The Supreme Court agreed to hear the petition in October 2015, following which more petitions raising similar grievances were filed. The petitioner had earlier mentioned that there are more than 5,000 websites featuring jokes on Sikhs and portraying members of the community in a bad light. The petition said that such websites displaying jokes on Sikhs should be banned for violating the fundamental right to life and dignity granted under the Constitution.
