Speculations about the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 have gained momentum. Recently, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has categorically refused to tour Pakistan for the 9th season of Champions Trophy 2025. BCCI has decided not to tour Pakistan due to security concerns. After this ICC has informed Pakistan about this. Following this, the Pakistan Cricket Board approached the ICC and the ICC has asked the PCB to give its confirmation on a possible hybrid model, in which India would play all its matches at another venue. In response, the Pakistan Board has asked the ICC to seek a written explanation from the BCCI stating its reasons for not going to Pakistan.
Team India last visited Pakistan in 2008
Team India last toured Pakistan in 2008. After this, after the terrorist attack in Mumbai, Team India was not sent to Pakistan. Both countries are playing matches against each other only in ICC tournaments. This is the first time that the ICC has hosted a tournament for Pakistan. Although Pakistan visited India for the ODI World Cup last year, India does not want to send its team to Pakistan due to various security reasons.
Pakistan was ready for a hybrid model in the Asia Cup
The Asia Cup was organized in the year 2023. Pakistan had agreed to a hybrid model for the tournament played last year. After which all the matches of Team India in Asia Cup were played in Sri Lanka. The BCCI also wants to play a tournament on the same model as the Champions Trophy. ICC has also told Pakistan that the final will also be played outside Pakistan. According to the report, if Pakistan agrees to a hybrid model or pulls out of the tournament altogether, Sri Lanka and the UAE are being considered for other venues.
