Mohammad Shami has not been selected for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia due to injury. After this he was selected in the Bengal squad for the Ranji Trophy and also performed well. Syed Mushtaq can play one to two matches in the Ali Trophy
According to a PTI report, Mohammad Shami may return for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in the second half. People in the know said that the medical team of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the national selectors want Shami to play some more competitive matches in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy to see if he is fit after all these efforts. Not a match, even if it is a white ball tournament. Head coach Lakshmi Ratan Shukla said that the Bengal team for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy will be selected tomorrow. If Shami doesn’t go for the Border-Gavaskar trophy then I believe he should be available for Bengal.

It is understood that the selection committee did not want to take any risk by including Mohammad Shami in the squad after just one Ranji Trophy match after completing an extensive rehabilitation programme. However, appearing in a competitive match a year later, Shami produced an impressive performance for Bengal against Madhya Pradesh in Indore, taking seven wickets to lead his team to their first win of the season.
Took 24 wickets in ODI World Cup 2023
Mohammad Shami has been performing well for Team India since long and has won many matches for the team on his own. So far for Team India he has taken 229 wickets in 64 Test matches, 195 wickets in 101 Test matches and 24 wickets in 23 T20 International matches. He proved to be the biggest hero for the team in the ODI World Cup 2023 held last year. He then took a total of 24 wickets.
