As the NYPD found a gray backpack that may have belonged to a brazenly killed murderer. Universal Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson and Runaway, Peak Design CEO Paul Daring said it could be an older version of their everyday backpack that was on the market from 2016 and 2019.
Peter Daring said that after the NYPD released photos of the suspected killer, he received several messages indicating that the man might be Peak design backpack. He said he reached out to the NYPD and assured them of any help in identifying the killer.
“This is crazy,” Daring said in an interview with the NYT. “Every aspect of this is so crazy.”
Elaborating on the bag, Daring said that his company stopped selling the bag in 2019 but it is possible that the bag sold on Peak Design’s website is used, but there are very few such bags available. Most likely, he said, the bags pictured were purchased between 2016 and 2019.
After a similar backpack was found in the Central Park area, NYPD investigators did not open the bag and sent it directly to a lab for forensic testing.
The backpack was popular among photographers and is known as photographer’s backpack.
The killer escaped by bus, not in New York City
Commissioner Jessica Tisch said she believes the killer is not hiding anywhere in New York City. After fleeing the scene on a bike, the killer is believed to have fled to New York City on a bus. The killer left clues for the police, including his phone, backpack, words written on bullet shell casings, etc., but the culprit has not yet been identified or caught.
Investigators are denying that the killer was a hitman, although he was skilled in the particular gun used to kill Brian Thompson. Investigators believe he acted out of personal vendetta.
