Google’s advanced feature for Android users will let you know if you’re being scammed during a call

Android users will now find it very easy to identify fake calls. Google has introduced an AI-based advanced spam call detection feature. This feature will instantly identify fake calls coming to users’ phones and issue an alert. Google introduced this feature at the Google I/O 2024 held this year. Google has announced the roll out of this AI spam detection feature through its blog post.

How does it work?

According to Google’s blog post, this artificial intelligence-based spam call detection feature works in the background of Android smartphones. It is activated as soon as the user’s phone receives a call from an unknown number. If, during the conversation, the AI detects that the caller is fake or a scammer, then the user will be alerted.

After this, two options ‘Not a Scam’ and ‘End Call’ appear on the user’s smartphone screen. Now it depends on the user whether to disconnect the call or not. If the user does not want to disconnect the call, he can whitelist that call. For this you can select ‘Not a Spam’.

User data is completely secure

Google claims that call audio and transcriptions are not saved, nor sent to company servers, after the call ends. All this happens directly in the device. The company says that the privacy of the users has been fully taken care of in this feature.

This feature of Google has been rolled out only for select users in America. Android beta users can use this feature. After the testing is completed, it will be rolled out to all Android users. Users from Google Pixel 6 to the latest Google Pixel 9 have started getting the AI spam detection feature in beta version.
