The cases of digital fraud have increased rapidly in the last one-two years. A major step has been taken by the government to curb the cases of cyber fraud. The government has launched a new initiative to curb spam calls from Southeast Asian countries such as Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam.
The Department of Telecommunications or DoT has identified around 4.8 lakh fake mobile connections originating from South-East Asian countries. The government has taken immediate steps to protect mobile users from digital fraud and banned around 2 lakh such connections. Along with this, investigation is going on against the remaining 2.8 lakh mobile numbers.
The government has given instructions
Let us tell you that the Government of India has taken many strict measures in the recent past to prevent cyber fraud. For this, the government has also made necessary changes in the telecom rules. Along with shutting down mobile connections, DoT has also identified more than 6200 mobile handsets that were used for digital fraud. Such mobile handsets have been blocked all over India.
Action against digital arrest
Let us tell you that with the increasing prevalence of internet and smartphones in India, cyber criminals are adopting new ways to cheat people. One of these is digital arrest. In recent times, cases of digital arrest have increased rapidly. Criminals have also cheated people of crores of rupees through digital arrest. To prevent this, the Cyber Fraud Coordination Center of the Ministry of Home Affairs has directed to take action on increasing cases of digital arrests. Popular social media platform WhatsApp has also been instructed to take action against accounts linked to digital fraud on behalf of I4C.
