UK Parliament Sikh MP Lord Indrajit Singh Portrait: UK and Europe’s first turban-wearing Sikh MP Lord Indrajit Singh has received a major honour. In recognition of his services and contribution to the nation, his portrait is installed in the Bishop’s Corridor of the House of Lords of the British Parliament in Westminster, London. This is the first time that a portrait of a Sikh has been displayed in the British Parliament. British Sikh MP Tanmanjit Singh Dhesi, Lord Kuldeep Singh Sahota, Jas Athwal MP, Kirith Entwistle MP, Richard Bacon, MP Bhagat Singh Shankar and Lady Singh Dr. Lord Indrajit Singh’s portrait unveiling ceremony was held in the presence of Kanwaljit Kaur OB, his family and friends.

Appreciating the contribution of Lord Indrajit Singh on this special occasion, Chairman of the House of Lords Heritage Committee, Lord Speaker Faulkner said that Indrajit Singh had done unprecedented work in increasing the understanding of Sikhism in the UK. Speaking on the occasion, Tanmanjit Singh Dhesi said that displaying the portrait of Lord Indrajit Singh in Parliament is a historic step and will become a center of attraction for all MPs and visitors to this prestigious house.
‘A matter of honor for Sikhs’
Commenting on this achievement, Global Sikh Council (GSC) Treasurer Harsaran Singh said that the installation of a picture of the turbaned Sikh Lord Indrajit Singh in the House of Lords in the UK Parliament is a matter of pride for the entire Sikh community and the Punjabi community. GSC Vice Chairman Ram Singh said this is the first time that Gursikh’s portrait will be adorned on the walls of the historic UK Parliament. Paramjit Singh Bedi, Vice President of the Council from America, said that it is a great honor for all Sikhs that Bhagwan Singh’s achievements and selfless services have been recognized at the highest level.

Global Sikh Council General Secretary Harjit Singh Grewal said the recognition was a testament to Bhagwan Inderjit Singh’s lifelong dedication and contribution to British society, the Sikh community and interfaith harmony. Executive Member of the Council, Jagir Singh from Malaysia said that Bhagwan Singh’s contribution to Parliament and interfaith movements will always be an inspiration to future generations.

Earned the title of ‘Baron Singh of Wimbledon’
Global Sikh Council, UK Executive Member Satnam Singh Punia said Lord Singh has set another milestone by assuming the title of ‘Baron Singh of Wimbledon’. He has upheld Sikh values and earned respect from all parties even in the British Parliament. Sikh Prachar Samiti chairman Rajinder Singh called it a historic achievement for the entire Sikh community and said it was a very proud moment.
