Indian man sells oldest domain name to OpenAI for Rs 126 crore, Sam Altman confirms

OpenAI, the legendary company that created ChatGPT is once again in the headlines. This time the company is in discussion regarding one of its deals. OpenAI has finally bought Chat.com, which is on the list of oldest domains in the world. The company bought the domain from Dharmesh Shah, founder and CTO of HubSpot. OpenAI has now replaced chat.com redirect directly with chatgpt.

Let us tell you that chat.com is one of the oldest domains. It was first recorded in 1996. It is being said that Dharmesh Shah acquired it last year itself. He spent around 15.5 million US dollars for this domain. If we convert it into Indian rupees, this amount becomes about 130 crore rupees.

Dharmesh Shah had informed in March this year that he had sold the domain but did not disclose the name at the time. After this, information about the deal was recently shared on microblogging platform X. Now OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has posted a post about the deal. Now it is confirmed from his post that chat.com is now a part of OpenAI.

Sam Altman wrote only Chat.com in his post. Open AI has bought the world’s oldest domain for over $15 million. Dharmesh Shah said he got OpenAI shares to sell to Chat.com. However, he is yet to give full details about the deal.
