‘Instead of spending Rs 1 on ISRO, we got Rs 2.50’, said S Somnath – we cannot depend on the government for funding.

Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is one of the prominent space agencies in the world. ISRO Chairman S Somnath has given a statement on Tuesday. He said that recently a study was conducted to find out whether the money invested in ISRO space agency has benefited the society or not. Actually S Somnath reached Karnataka Residential Educational Institute Society KREIS. Here he made this statement while interacting with the students. Meanwhile, regarding the studies done at ISRO, he said that for every rupee spent on ISRO, the society got back 2.50 rupees.

S Somnath said- government cannot be depended on for funding

The dialogue session was organized by the Department of Social Welfare and the Department of Science and Technology, Government of Karnataka. S Somnath said, ‘ISRO’s objective is to serve the country, and not to engage in a battle for supremacy in space. ISRO needs freedom to do what it wants to do. He said freedom can be achieved by creating an ecosystem for business opportunities in space technology. The ISRO chairman said that missions related to the moon are very expensive. In such a situation, we cannot depend solely on the government to fund ISRO.

S Somnath said- ISRO does a lot

S. Somnath said that we have to create business opportunities for ISRO. If you want to continue this, you have to prove the usefulness of Isro. Otherwise, when we do something, the government will ask us to stop it. Regarding this, he said that ISRO does more than just space work. Answering the questions, he said that we are giving advisory to the fishermen. We also advise fishermen on where to find their fish. This allows fishermen to save a lot of diesel required for their boats.
