Beirut/Jerusalem The Israeli army has carried out heavy airstrikes on the southern suburbs of Beirut. This is the heaviest attack ever on Hezbollah-controlled territory in Lebanon. The Israeli army carried out the attack in central Lebanon, where more than 20 people were killed. Smoke billowed over Beirut as nearly a dozen attacks began in Lebanon’s southern suburbs on Tuesday morning.
After warning civilians on social media, the Israeli military said it attacked Hezbollah positions in Beirut’s Dahiya neighborhood and later said it destroyed most of the group’s weapons and missile facilities. Israel said it had taken steps to minimize civilian casualties and reiterated its earlier accusation that Hezbollah had deliberately entered civilian areas to use them as human shields. However, Hezbollah has denied the allegation.
Hezbollah also retaliated against Israel
Two people were killed in an attack on a residential building in the northern Israeli city of Nahariya, Israeli police said. Hezbollah later claimed responsibility for the drone attack, saying it was aimed at a military base east of Nahriya. Israelis have been forced to take shelter because of drone strikes across the north, the military said. Rescue workers said the explosion occurred in the courtyard of a kindergarten in the Haifa suburb, where children had been taken to a shelter. However, no one was injured.
Lebanon suffered heavily
Israel’s attack has caused great damage to Lebanon. Lebanon’s health ministry said eight people were killed in the village of Balchame, southeast of Beirut, and 15 in the village of Joun, in the Chouf district, in an Israeli attack in Mount province in the center of the country. In the south, five people were killed in an Israeli attack on Tefahta, two in an attack on Nabatih and one in the coastal city of Tyre. Another person was killed in the attack in Hermel in the northeast, the ministry said. Beirut residents have mostly fled the southern suburbs since Israel began bombing there in September. Footage of one of the attacks shared on social media showed two missiles hitting a nearly 10-story building, collapsing it and sending up a cloud of debris. (Reuters)
